Top 5 Cycling iPhone Apps

Being in the business of iPhone bike mounting solutions, we are often asked about the best iPhone apps to use whilst cycling. Naturally we all have our favourite, for whatever reason we like the most. But today we thought we would give you a quick review of what we have decided are the top 5 options the every rider has when in come to iPhone Cycling apps.

In no particular order:

Strava Free Version (Premium $6.49 monthly or $64.99 yearly)

Strava has all the standard statistics and data you need for tracking your rides and all of its statistics. With the ability to:

- Check your speed and distance
- Track your trip against other riders
- Keep a log of your rides
- Socialise with other Strava users
- Find the most popular and competitive segments of road and
- With the addition of other equipment, track your heart rate and give you a "Suffer Score"
Strava really seems to have thought of everything when it comes to a cycling app. Probably one of the most attractive things about Strava is the ability to feed that competitive urge inside yourself, even when you have no one to ride with. As strava not only lets you race against your own personal best, but it also allows you to time yourself against all other riders to record that stretch of road, ranking you among them.

 Cyclometer $4.99

Cyclometer is a great option for tracking a ride, with its numerous features, accurate calculations and you can do all of this without signing up and creating an account on a website or paying any subscription fee. Cyclometer allows you to:
- Compare against your previous workouts
- View a large range data and stats including Speed, distance, elevation total ride time, etc.
- Use Google Maps, including the ability to switch between Map, Satellite and Hybrid forms.
- Audio feedback, this feature allows the app to announce your progress back to you.
Cyclometer (Like many other cycling apps) is also used for running, this includes set work outs and running plans. It is a very accurate solution to tracking your ride and is designed to be mounted on the front of the bike, making it perfect for the Quad Lock Bike Kit.

 Road Bike Pro $5.49

Road Bike Pro is another great app for recording your rides using your iPhone. The app has many similar features to those already discussed including:
- A detailed map of a ride
- Average speed calculated
- Total distance
- Weather information

Road Bike Pro enables you live tracking of critical performance data such as speed, distance, pace and altitude, weather and wind data. With a customisable dashboard configuration that allows you to see whatever you prefer. Road Bike Pro also offers easy ways to share your rides with friends on Facebook and other social media outlets. Road Bike Pro also offers the user a historic mapping function so that all rides can be stored and compared at a later date. Road bike pro is a useful, easy to use system thats made especially with cyclists in mind. This app displays all relative data in real time and makes a great cycle computer alternative.

Map My Ride Free Version (Premium $6.49 per month)

Map My Ride is a great app, that is said to have the best route creation tool compared to any other app of its kind. Map My Ride is packed full of features which rival many of the other options discussed above, including:
- Exportable maps
- Easy map and route sharing
- Great route overview screens
- Ability to place workouts on a calendar
- List and search events

The major issue with this app, is to access some of the more useful and ground breaking features including the route creation tool, you must be a subscriber to the full service option. This can be purchased in app for $6.49 per month or $31.99 per year.

 Cycle Tracker Pro $4.99

Cycle Tracker Pro offers many of the statistic and data that other apps offer in an open, easy to use interface. The data includes:
- Speed
- Distance
- Altitude
- Calories
- Time

This user friendly app also allows you to play music from your iPod (like others do) but it also enables you to set tracks for certain parts of your route, including the ability to set a "power boost' song to play when extra motivation is needed. Cycle Tracker Pro also includes social media integration including Facebook and Twitter.

Wow, a Top 5 list that doesn’t have any of the top 3 apps for cycling in it? Interesting.

Check Out iSmoothRun, Cyclemeter Pro, and Runkeeper. Nothing in this list is even close. (Strava is more about personal glorification that actually tracking health/fitness/goals)

Hi from MapMyFitness – just want to clarify – you do NOT need to be a paying member of MapMyRide to use the route creation tool.

Folks love using our website to map out their ride (we also have free search of over 100 million routes globally) and send it to the phone to navigate.

Very cool bike mount!

The Wahoo Fitness App – Gives you speed, distance, cadence, time.

Brett said on March 08, 2013:

Would love to see you list ranked.

Also, with Map My Ride, I often create routes online and then TRY to follow them while I ride, but it does not have turn-by-turn.
Are there any good biking apps with turn-by-turn?
